I’m sure there have been a million times that she wanted to smack me, but she never did!!
I don’t remember ever fighting with her when I was little. She never chased me with a knife or even slammed a door in my face.
To be honest, we have always been pretty close. Since Momma passed, we have become even closer.
We talk every day now, even if it’s just through a text.
She has become my best friend, and I’m thankful for her.
She probably doesn’t even remember all of the little memories that I have stored away about her.
When I was a little girl, I wanted to grow up just like her. I idolized her.
She would buy me little trinkets for the holidays. I would get a Valentine’s necklace or a St. Patrick’s Day button—some little random thing.
She always seemed to think of me.
When she moved out, she would let me come stay with her. We would watch I Love Lucy reruns.
One of my favorite memories:
I would get these little cards at Christmas. They came with little candy cane stickers.
My parents were just trying to guilt me into behaving and blame it on Santa!!
That’s beside the point.
I remember her sitting on the side of my bed, reading the list to me. I would get all excited, and she would let me put the sticker on.
I cried when I opened my birthday gift this year!!
Happy tears.
Once again, she thinks of me.
Always.
